Erin Blake

Folger Shakespeare Library
Senior Cataloger
Washington, DC
(Photo and bio copy-and-pasted from Rare Book School's Faculty page because I'm all about re-purposing existing data) Erin Blake is the Senior Cataloger responsible for art and manuscripts at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC, the world’s largest Shakespeare collection and a primary repository for European rare books, manuscripts, and prints from the early modern period (1500–1750). She is also a faculty member of Rare Book School at the University of Virginia, where she teaches "The History of Printed Book Illustration in the West." From 2000 to 2014, Erin served as the Folger's Curator of Art and Special Collections, and from 2014 to 2018 as Head of Collection Information Services, after which she happily returned to working hands-on with the collection. Erin served as chief editor of the national standard for art cataloging in libraries, Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (Graphics), and remains an active member of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries. She holds a Ph.D. in art history from Stanford University, and has written and lectured widely on issues related to book illustration.
