Jan Dorscheid has been the Junior Conservator of Furniture at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam since October 2015. Jan studied Conservation and Restoration of Wooden Artefacts at the University of Applied Science in Potsdam, Germany, after a three-year apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker. Prior to commencing his studies, he worked in a private conservation studio in Ireland, followed by diverse internships in private practice and museums. Jan wrote his final thesis on the Lacquer Room from Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, which is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Following his studies, he completed a year-long post-graduate internship at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, working primarily with French 18th-century furniture. From autumn 2013 to summer 2015 Jan was the Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in the Department of Conservation of Furniture and Woodwork at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
