Rosa Lowinger is a sculpture and architectural conservator who holds an M.A. and conservation certificate from NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts. A Fellow of the American Institute for Conservation, she has been in private practice for 30 years, specializing primarily in Twentieth Century materials. Lowinger lectures and publishes frequently on conservation topics related to modern and contemporary sculpture and architecture, and was the 2009 Rome prize fellow in Conservation at the American Academy in Rome, where she researched the history of vandalism against art, architecture, and public space. A founding associate editor of Change Over Time, the University of Pennsylvania’s Journal Preservation of Built Heritage, Lowinger is editor of the upcoming theme issue on Vandalism, and co-editor of the upcoming Association for Preservation Technology issue on Conservation of Modern Metals. Lowinger curated the 2013 exhibit Concrete Paradise: Miami Marine Stadium for the Coral Gables Museum and serves on the board of the Florida Association of Museums, the Florida Association of Public Art Professionals, the Vincent Price Art Museum at East Los Angeles College, and the Advisory Board for Friends of Miami Marine Stadium. A naturalized Cuban- American, she developed the AIC’s travel program to Cuba and is the author of Tropicana Nights: The Life and Times of the Legendary Cuban Nightclub (Harcourt, 2005).
