Prof. Zvi Koren received his B.S. (cum laude) degree from Brooklyn College and his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the City University of New York. He was Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in Manhattan. After moving to Israel in 1990, he was the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, and received the “Excellence Award” for the most outstanding faculty member, the “President’s Award for Excellence, Creativity, and Innovation”, and also served as Dean of Students. Prof. Koren has been the Director of The Edelstein Center for the Analysis of Ancient Artifacts at Shenkar since the Center’s inception in 1991. He has participated in a multinational European Commission project and collaborated with various institutions in about 15 countries. He has published and lectured extensively on his research pertaining to the chromatographic analyses of the colorants on cultural heritage objects from around the world, and is a leading scientific authority on the molluskan purple dye. He has made a number of discoveries, and some of them have been reported in the broadcast and print media, including The New York Times.
